my three-colored cat!

this is my tri-colored or the more famous name, calico cat...

fyi, eventhough the uber-cool name is uber cool, however, calico is actually not a breed..it's a condition where a cat has three colors, with the background color is white..(if the background color is not white, it is called a tortoise-shell cat)...with two other colors..most commonly black and ginger..

have u ever heard of an old wives' tales about those who own a male calico would gain fortune or etc..even the fortune cat (the ones u'll see in mmost chinese shops where the cat is like bye-bye'ing you with his hand) is almost nearly all are calicos...i sure did before and was actually puzzled why is that as i usually do...(note:i am a lousy cheater during tests because i tend to ask ppl why izit like that instead of just copying the answer..note again:don't tell my mom)...alas, i did a google-wikipedia-merriam webster check and actually found out the truth and actually makes me sad about it...

my cat is a male cat!!yes, MALE!!according to my inexperienced observation la..going to follow u guys up after the cat is 4 months old yaa..i think now, it is still a month or two old..and as far as my experience as a cat owner, most male calicos are killed after birth by their own parents or other cats passing by...therefore, i've been keeping a close eye on my calico ever since...and just now, tigger tried to bite him in the throat while he was sleeping on my bed, beside me!!!can u believe it!!tq mr. obvious!!and obviously, i sent tigger from out of my room...then i googled about calicos laaa...

what i had found about why calicos are nearly always female are because the XX and XY chromosomes...X is the carrier of genetics, the color of the eye and fur and all, and meanwhile Y is only an indicator for the gender..

ginger is a MUTANT color genes that is dominant (or izit recessive??) on only one X in a X from the two Xs in a female and ONE Xs from a male...therefore, a female can have a ginger color gene in the first X and a black color gene in the 2nd X, therefore forming a three colored female kitten (the white usually comes associated with the black because it is not a mutant gene,therefore it can)...

basic look on the human chromosomes where the sex chromosome is the indicator of gender..a female has 2 Xs in the X area and none in the Y area..the male ones are just as shown, where each of X and Y area has one chromosome...

and for the case of a male cat, it only has one X, the genetic carrier chromosomes..so it's either can be an all-ginger colored cat or anything else colored cat..mutually exclusive...with three colored cat, it needs to have two Xs chromosome to function..same with the female, with the 1st X bringing the ginger color gene, and the 2nd X bringing the any other color genes..

my cat might be infertile!!mandul!!huhuhu!!(that's the sad part)..eventhough my mom did plan to neuter the kittens later to prevent heavy population...lol!!but at least he did have a choice..now?no choice at all..huhuhuhu!!HOWEVER!!!my inexperience might prove me wrong and Tigger might have just been playing with him..hopefully!!!

in the time-being, gotta stay positive and hopefully he might be a her..lol!!
